Tiktok is taking over social media in Vietnam and here is why

Tiktok is the fourth most used social media platform in Vietnam, with the penetration of 75.6% of total Internet users aged 16 to 64.

That penetration rate means 39.91 millions users aged 18 or above, according to ByteDance’s advertising resources.

TikTok ads are able to reach 55.4 per cent of all Internet users and 40.5% total population in Vietnam. This number places TikTok among the most attractive social networking platforms for the advertising industry.

Early 2022, 53.5% of TikTok’s Vietnamese ad audience was female and 46.5 percent were male.

While Facebook remains the most popular social media platform overall, TikTok is gaining popularity among young people as a place to watch short videos.

TikTok is now used by 50% of Vietnamese Gen Z for short-video content, whereas it was only 12% in Q1 2020. However, TikTok’s popularity has been slower among Gen X and Millennial users.

TikTok in Vietnam is a force to reckon with

Vietnam ranks sixth on the list of 25 countries which have the most views on Tiktok, with 107 million views, according to a new study carried out by UK-branded clothing company Superdry. Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam ranks fifth among ten most viewed cities on TikTok with 32.6 million views. The time using on this app for Vietnamese also doubled from 4% in 2020 to 8% in 2021.

TikTok is the new platform for young, hip Vietnamese people that has the most popular trends rather than legacy platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube .

In Vietnam, young people are constantly in the search for trends to follow and cover on Tiktok. They adapt well to everything Tiktok and are quick to learn tricks to make their short videos stand out.

They are also open-minded about creating and consuming new types of content. The Vietnam community has a high need for interaction and sharing, as compared to other countries in SEA region.
